SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State athletic department will hold its 11th annual Aztec Insider on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Peterson Gym beginning at 6 p.m. PST. The free gathering will be held in conjunction with other SDSU sporting events that day and will give fans the opportunity to hear select Aztec coaches talk about San Diego State Athletics.
After doors open to the public at 5:30 p.m., baseball head coach Tony Gwynn officially kicks off the program at 6 p.m., when he discusses the Scarlet and Black's weekend series with cross-town rival San Diego. Men's basketball coach Steve Fisher takes the stage after Gwynn and will preview San Diego State's key matchup with conference foe Brigham Young.
SDSU director of athletics Jeff Schemmel will follow to give his "State of the Aztecs" address, while football head coach Chuck Long is slated to appear at 6:30 p.m. to offer a preview of the 2008 season. The festivities are expected to conclude in time for the baseball game against USD, which gets underway at 7 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Meanwhile the men's basketball team tips off with BYU at Cox Arena an hour later starting at 8 p.m.
In addition, the Aztec women's rowing team opens its spring season on Saturday with a scrimmage against USC, USD and UC San Diego beginning at 8 a.m. PT on Mission Bay. Following the scrimmage, the Scarlet and Black will take part in the San Diego Row for the Cure, which was postponed last October due to area wildfires.
Tickets to the men's basketball game are still available and may be purchased by visiting the Cox Arena box office, Qualcomm Stadium Window E, or calling Ticketmaster at (619) 220-TIXS or logging onto Ticketmaster.com. The game is designated as San Diego Union-Tribune Youth and Family Night with upper baseline reserved tickets available for $10 with a minimum purchase of four or more. Fans can also show their basketball ticket to gain free admission to the baseball game.
Single-game baseball tickets are priced between $5-7 and may be purchased in advance by calling the Aztec Athletic Ticket Office at (619) 283-SDSU or logging onto GoAztecs.com. Group tickets are also available to parties of 10 or more and can be purchased by calling (619) 594-4285.
