Aztecs Put Remarkable Streak on the Line Saturday; Open Two-Game Road Trip Against Red-Hot Utah
San Diego State's impressive streak of 94 consecutive games without a three-game losing streak, the 12th-longest active streak in the country, will get a test on Saturday when the Aztecs (16-8 overall; 6-4 MWC) open a two-game road swing at Utah (14-8; 5-4 MWC).

Tip time is set for 2:05 p.m. MT (1:05 p.m. PT) with the contest being shown nationally on VERSUS (San Diego Cox Cable channel 65, San Diego/North County Time Warner channel 41, DirecTV channel 608, Dish Network Channel 151). The contest can also be heard on the flagship home of San Diego State athletics, AM 600 KOGO.

The Aztecs will try and avoid their first three-game losing streak since Feb. 26-March 5, 2005. The current streak of 94 games without dropping three in a row is a new school record, breaking the old mark of 92 consecutive games from Feb. 5, 1938 through Feb. 24, 1941. The record was broken ironically in SDSU's loss last Saturday at TCU.

San Diego State suffered its second consecutive defeat on Wednesday, a 73-63 home loss to the Lobos. The decision snapped a five-game Aztec winning streak over UNM. The Lobos made their first five three-point field goal attempts and built a 19-7 advantage. SDSU battled back to within two points (27-25) and trailed by just four at intermission. The Lobos opened the second half with a 12-2 run and the Aztecs got no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

SDSU was led by junior forward Lorrenzo Wade, who tallied his fifth 20-point game of the season with a team-high 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Junior center Ryan Amoroso recorded his second consecutive double-digit scoring game and his sixth in his last eight outings with 19 points and a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard Richie Williams, making just his third start since returning from a broken left wrist, added 12 points in a season-high 33 minutes.

San Diego State played the game without junior forward Kyle Spain, who is serving a team suspension for the remainder of the season. Between freshman forward Tim Shelton, Williams and Spain, Aztec starters have combined to miss 32 games to date with a majority of the missed games are due to injury.

San Diego State and Utah are meeting for the 63rd time with the Utes owning a comfortable 50-12 lead in the series. The Aztecs are just 2-27 lifetime at the Huntsman Center and 2-28 when facing the Utes in Salt Lake City (wins in 1982 and 2006). This is the 28th season in which the teams have met multiple times, and only once have the Aztecs swept the season series. In 1982, SDSU won 75-62 at the San Diego Sports Arena and 74-72 at the Huntsman Center. Earlier this season, SDSU rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to claim a 64-56 win on Jan. 16th at Cox Arena.
