SAN DIEGO - Coming off a pair of victories last week, the San Diego State swimming and diving team defeated Boise State, 167-128, but fell to Mountain West Conference foe Colorado State, 185-110, on Wednesday afternoon at the University of San Diego Swim Complex. The Aztecs are now 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the MWC.

The Rams (7-0, 4-0 MWC) remained undefeated in dual meet action as they won 14 of the quad meet's 16 events.

The Aztecs started the day off with a strong finish from the relay squad of Brooke Vessey, Jessica Morrill, Ana Dowell and Katie Leahy, as they placed second with a time of 1:50.58.

In the 100 backstroke, Vessey (1:00.17) and Katie Smith (1:00.92) finished third and fourth, respectively. Smith also had a fourth-place showing in the 200 back as she clocked in at 2:10.04.

Jessica Morrill, who was named the MWC swimmer of the week after two top finishes last week, continued to lead the Aztecs with a runner-up performance in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.04) and a third-place showing in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.66). Ana Dowell also had a strong day, as she finished third in the 100 free (54.24) before swimming to a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 58.69.

SDSU concluded the day with another solid relay performance as Vessey, Dowell, Kyla Power and Stephanie Henderson took second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:40.05.

Both diving events took place on Tuesday at the Aztec Aquaplex, but the scores counted toward today's meet. Caitlin Atkinson finished second in the one-meter event with a score of 244.00. On the three-meter board, Keely Brooks (228.00), Kathleen Heuring (227.35) and Atkinson (220.55) took second, third and fourth, respectively.

The Aztecs will be right back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12, when they head to Provo, Utah for a MWC dual meet with BYU at 1 p.m. MT.
