SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Morris, who shares the award with Utah's Kalee Whipple, averaged 26 points in the Aztecs' first win over BYU since 2001, and first victory at UNLV since 1997. This is Morris' first career weekly honor and SDSU's second this season.

On Saturday at UNLV, Morris scored a career-best 35 points in a 75-55 victory over the Lady Rebels. The 35 points are the most ever by an Aztec in a Mountain West Conference contest and most by an SDSU player overall since Falisha Wright had 36 against Wyoming on Feb. 25, 1993. Twenty-one of her 35 points came from beyond the arc, as Morris converted seven consecutive three-point attempts, ending the evening 7-for-9 from three-point land and 13-for-21 from the field.

Morris, whose 35 points are the most ever by a UNLV opponent at Cox Pavilion, also tallied a team-best three steals and tied for the squad lead in rebounds with five.

Last Wednesday versus Brigham Young, Morris shared the team lead in points with 17, including 11 in the first half, in San Diego State's 62-39 romp over the Cougars. The sophomore added four steals and committed just one turnover in only 24 minutes of action.

In the two wins, she averaged 26.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals, while shooting 62.5 percent from the field, including a 77.8 percent mark from beyond the arc.

For the year, Morris leads San Diego State is scoring in both league (18.8) and overall (13.1) contests. She is first in the MWC in steals per game (2.8) and has a team-best 23 three-pointers.

Morris is the second Aztec to earn conference player-of-the-week honors this season, joining freshman center Paris Johnson (San Diego, Calif.), who was honored at the end of December. This is just the second time in league history that the Aztecs have had multiple players of the week in the same season.

San Diego State will play a single game this week at home versus Colorado State on Wednesday at Cox Arena, beginning at 7 p.m.
