NEW YORK - San Diego State senior midfielder Kraig Chiles (San Diego, Calif./Poway HS) has been selected by Chivas USA in the first round of the 2007 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft, held Thursday afternoon. Chiles was picked ninth of the 56 players selected in the supplemental draft.

Chiles became the fourth Aztec picked by an MLS team over the past three years. Last season, Tally Hall was chosen in the fourth round of the MLS Super Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy and Raul Bautista was picked by Chivas in the fourth round of the supplemental draft. Two years ago, former SDSU standout Matt Couch was selected in the fourth round by the Galaxy in the supplemental draft.

Chiles, a co-captain, started all 19 games for the Aztecs in 2007 scoring eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Earlier this season, Chiles was named first-team all-Pac-10 after being chosen to the all-conference team twice before (second team in 2005, honorable mention in 2006).

This season, Chiles was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week on two occasions, and was honored as the College Soccer News National Player of the Week on Oct. 15. He was also named to the Soccer America National Team of the Week (Oct. 16), College Soccer News National Team of the Week (Oct. 15) and the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week (Sept. 24 and Oct. 15), and was selected to The Soccer Post/Aztec Classic all-tournament team.
