First-Place Aztecs Travel to Provo to Play Brigham Young in a Contest Between the Last Two Regular-Season Champions
The winners of the last two Mountain West Conference regular-season championships meet for the first time in 2008 on Wednesday night in Provo when first-place San Diego State (14-4; 4-0 MWC) battles preseason conference favorite Brigham Young (13-5; 2-1 MWC).

Tip time is set for 6:05 p.m. MT (5:05 p.m. PT) with the contest televised by The Mtn. (San Diego Cox Cable channel 320). The game can also be heard on XTRA Sports 1360.

San Diego State won the 2006 MWC regular-season and conference championships and the Aztecs are 27-9 in league play since the beginning of the 2006 MWC campaign. Brigham Young won the 2007 regular-season title and is 27-8 in conference play since the start of the 2006 Mountain West season.

The Aztecs have won three consecutive games, matched their best 18-game record in the last 41 seasons and opened conference play at 4-0 for the first time since 1985 with a 70-43 victory over Wyoming on Saturday night at Cox Arena. San Diego State led wire-to-wire, scoring the first 19 points of the game and building a 26-3 lead with 6:42 to play in the first half. The Aztecs held the Cowboys to just one field goal for the first 18 minutes of the first half.

Junior center Ryan Amoroso reached double figures for the second consecutive game with 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Lorrenzo Wade became the first SDSU player to post a double-double this season with his third career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Junior forward Kyle Spain added 15 points and four rebounds. All 10 players that saw action for the Aztecs scored in the contest.

At 14-4, San Diego State is off to another solid start despite the graduation of the league's all-time leading scorer Brandon Heath and all-conference performer Mohamed Abukar. The impressive start is also remarkable considering the Aztecs, who were picked to finish in a tie for fourth place in the preseason poll, have been without two starters in freshman forward Tim Shelton (missed 14 games) and junior point guard Richie Williams (missed eight games, including five straight).

Brigham Young has the nation's second-longest homecourt win streak, having won 40 consecutive games at the Marriott Center. The Cougars are 13-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play following an impressive 55-52 victory at Utah on Saturday.

San Diego State and Brigham Young are meeting for the 61st time with the Cougars owning a 40-20 series advantage. The Aztecs have won four of the last six and seven of the last 12 encounters. San Diego State is 3-25 against Brigham Young in Provo with victories coming in 1985, 1996 and 2005. The teams have split the season series each of the past two seasons with the home team winning all four games.
