Looking for First 3-0 Conference Start Since 1985, San Diego State Returns Home to Face Utah In Clash of MWC Unbeatens
Two of the three Mountain West Conference teams that are undefeated in league play meet Wednesday night at Cox Arena, as San Diego State (12-4 overall; 2-0 MWC) looks to improve to 3-0 in league play for the first time since 1985 when it plays host to Utah (10-4; 1-0 MWC).

Game time is set for 8 p.m. PT and the contest will be televised by The Mtn. (San Diego Cox Cable channel 320). The game can also be heard on the Aztec flagship radio station, AM 600 KOGO.

San Diego State is off its best start in 24 seasons and has matched its best 16-game record in 41 seasons with a 72-67 victory at New Mexico on Saturday night.

For just the second time in school history and the fifth in the long history of The Pit, a visiting team has won three consecutive victories at the venue. The Aztecs rallied from a 14-point deficit to claim their third straight victory in Albuquerque and fifth consecutive win over the Lobos.

Junior forward Lorrenzo Wade tied a career-high with 23 points and six rebounds, including 10 points in a 10-0 Aztec run to turn an eight-point deficit into a two-point advantage.

For the ninth time in 10 games, San Diego State won the rebound battle as the Aztecs had 18 offensive rebounds and a 45-34 edge on the glass. The Aztecs connected on 13 of 14 free throw attempts in the final 70 seconds of the game, including 7-of-8 from the team's lone senior, Matt Thomas.

San Diego State may be the surprise of the league thus far, overcoming the graduation of the league's all-time leading scorer Brandon Heath and all-conference performer Mohamed Abukar, and playing without two starters in freshman forward Tim Shelton and three-year starting point guard junior Richie Williams to post a 12-4 record, first place in the Mountain West Conference and the league's best RPI to date.

For the second consecutive game, San Diego State is playing an opponent that has not played a game in a week. Utah is 10-4 coming off a 58-36 victory in the MWC opener over Air Force (Jan. 5) and an 83-64 victory over Dixie State last Wednesday night. The Utes are led by junior Luke Nevill, who is averaging 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

This is the 62nd meeting between the teams with Utah owning a 50-11 series lead. In San Diego, the Utes have a 19-8 advantage. The teams have split the season series each of the last two seasons with the visiting team winning in 2006 and the home team prevailing in 2007. The Aztecs have turned the corner and are an impressive 25-9 in MWC games since the beginning of the 2006 season. Nonetheless, the Utes have enjoyed success throughout the series. Despite splitting the previous four games, Utah has won eight of the last 10 encounters, 22 of the last 25 games and 31 of the last 35 meetings.

This is the first of two straight home games as SDSU will host Wyoming on Saturday night.
