SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Director of Athletics Jeff Schemmel announced the hiring of three new members to the Aztecs' athletics staff on Tuesday. Kelli Edelbrock has been named Ticket Office Associate, while Andrea Ohta and Jeff Salmon have been named Media Relations Assistants.
Edelbrock, a 2005 graduate of New Mexico, joins the Aztec ticket office after spending the 2006 baseball season interning with the Las Vegas 51s, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. At New Mexico, Edelbrock lettered with the Lobo softball team from 2003-04. Prior to attending New Mexico, the 2004 scholar-athlete was an all-state softball selection at Palomar College in San Marcos and all-area honoree at Poway High School.
Before coming to San Diego State, Ohta was a graduate assistant at Long Beach State where she served as the primary contact for cross country, men's volleyball and the co-contact for softball while earning a master's degree in sport management. A 2003 graduate of Occidental College, Ohta will handle the Aztecs' media relations efforts for women's swimming and diving, women's water polo, women's tennis and will assist with women's basketball and volleyball.
Salmon comes to The Mesa after spending the past year at Illinois State, where he served as the assistant media relations director. Prior to working at ISU, the Geneva, Ill., native spent the 2005-06 campaign interning with the Kentucky media relations office, where he was the contact for the Wildcats' nationally-ranked men's and women's tennis and swimming and diving teams, as well as football.
A 2001 undergraduate of Western Illinois, Salmon began his media relations career at Oklahoma in 2003 as a student assistant, where he received his master's degree in journalism and mass communication in 2005. He assisted with all aspects of OU's publications and media relations efforts, including working with the nationally-ranked football program, which included current Aztec head football coach Chuck Long. With SDSU, Salmon will handle the media relations duties for women's soccer, men's golf, men's tennis and will assist with men's basketball.
