SAN DIEGO - Kyley Sexton, one of the top high school volleyball athletes in the state of Oregon, has signed a national letter of intent to play at San Diego State beginning in the fall of 2008. The 6-0 outside hitter from West Salem High School has garnered 10 varsity letters in three sports during her illustrious prep career.
A two-time player of the year for the Central Valley Conference (as a junior and senior), Sexton earned all-CVC recognition each of her four years including first-team accolades her final three seasons. As a senior, she was named to the 2007 Statesman-Journal all--star team and was that publication's Female Volleyball Player of the Year. She was also voted the Female Fall Athlete of the Year for 2007 by the Salem Breakfast Club. (Sexton is also in the running for 2007 all-state and state player of the year honors which will be announced in the near future.)
During her junior year, Sexton was named to the all-tournament team at the state championships after leading West Salem to a fifth-place finish. In addition to her all-league first team honor, she was selected to the all-state team as well. In 2005 as a sophomore, she was a second-team all-state tourney selection and received third-team all-state accolades after leading West Salem to a sixth-place finish at the state tourney. She also earned second-team all-league honors as a freshman.
As a track athlete, Sexton was an all-region selection and was West Salem's female track athlete of the year as a sophomore and junior. She holds the school records in the high jump and 400 meters, and was also a member of the school-record setting 400 relay team.
Sexton also played two seasons of basketball (as a freshman and sophomore). She was a member of the freshman team in 2004-05 who moved up to the JV squad that season, then played a season of varsity ball the next year.
Sexton has played volleyball the past seven years with the Salem Volleyball Club. She has played with the club's top team (18U) for three years, joining that squad initially as a 15-year-old.
She joins Paije Pearson, an all-state honoree from Chandler (Ariz.) High School in SDSU's recruiting class for the 2008 season.
