SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State crew team has signed two rowers to National Letters of Intent head coach Jennifer Zebroski announced on Thursday. The two - Vanessa Jones and Erin Rozema - will join the Aztecs in the fall of 2008.

"These two student-athletes will make an immediate impact on our program," Zebroski said. "Vanessa (Jones) has been a coxswain for two years and will help our program immensely. She is a hard worker and is eager to learn more about rowing and coxing. We are just as excited for Erin Rozema. She is a strong athlete and wonderful student, and we are looking forward to working with her."

A coxswain, Jones comes to The Mesa from the Capital Junior Crew Club in Northern California where she rowed for two years. A Folsom, Calif., native, Jones was a part of the lightweight four boat that took sixth in the grand finals at nationals. The Aztecs will also welcome her experience, as she has rowed on many of the courses that SDSU will compete in both the fall and spring.

"I chose SDSU because of the great business program and strong academics," Jones said. "Athletically, SDSU has a fast and fun team that I am looking for. I am very excited to make an impact on this team."

Rozema, a native of Gross Pointe Woods, Mich., comes to San Diego State from the Detroit Boat Club. Rozema led the Varsity Eight Boat to a runner-up finish at the 2007 Midwest Junior Rowing Championships.

"I knew I wanted to go to San Diego State as soon as I visited the campus," Rozema said. "The athletic facilities are amazing and the campus was beautiful. The rowing program appears to be getting stronger and I can't wait to be an Aztec."
