Dec. 5, 2007
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell (Carlsbad, Calif.) and offensive lineman Mike Kravetz (Las Vegas, Nev.) each took home three awards at the annual Aztec football banquet held Sunday at the Marriott Marina Hotel in downtown San Diego.
O'Connell captured the John Simcox Most Valuable Player Award and was one of six Aztecs, along with Kravetz and safety Ray Bass (Corona, Calif.), to collect the Dr. R. Hardy/C. E. Peterson Captains Award. He and Bass were also co-recipients of Byron H. Chase Memorial Trophy, which is presented to the squad's outstanding offensive and defensive players.
Kravetz, meanwhile, secured the Academic Initiative Award (AIM) and shared most improved honors with safety Corey Boudreaux (Orange, Calif.).
Wide receiver Chaz Schilens (Mesa, Ariz.) was the fourth multiple award-winner on the evening after sharing the captains award and taking home the President's Award for Most Improved Scholastic Achievement.
In all, 12 awards were presented to 21 student-athletes with SDSU radio announcer Ted Leitner presiding over the festivities, which were also attended by the Aztec coaching staff, as well as friends and family members.
