Dec. 3, 2007
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior placekicker Garrett Palmer (Rialto, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the team's 48-27 loss to Brigham Young, the league office announced Monday.
Garrett Palmer was 2-for-2 in field goal attempts on the evening, connecting from 40 and 41 yards, and made all three of his extra points. He made his final eight attempts in the 2007 season and finished his four-year career with 17 field goals of 40 or more yards.
This season, Palmer made 13-for-15 attempts. Saturday was the fifth time he had two or more 40-yard field goals in the same game. He has been good on his last six attempts from 40 or more yards.
It is the third career honor for Palmer, who was also tabbed MWC Special Teams Player of the Week in 2004 and 2005, after tying a career game high with three field goals in windy conditions at Colorado State.
Palmer becomes the sixth SDSU player to earn league player of the week honors this season and fourth special teams winner in the last five weeks.
San Diego State finished the 2007 season 4-8 overall and 3-5 in the Mountain West Conference.
