Aztecs Look to Extend Best Division I Start in School History at 19th-Ranked Arizona on Saturday Afternoon 
Having matched the best 11-game record in its 38 seasons at the Division I level, San Diego State (9-2 overall; 0-0 MWC) plays its eighth road or neutral game of the young season at 19th-ranked Arizona (8-2 overall; 0-0 Pac-10) on Saturday afternoon in Tucson, Ariz. in the 23rd annual Fiesta Bowl Classic.
Game time is set for 1 p.m. MT (noon PT) and the contest will be televised by FSN Arizona (DirecTV channel 649 and DISH channel 415) and the game will also be carried on FSN West in the San Diego market (San Diego Cox channel 29 and San Diego Time Warner channel 31). The game can also be heard on the Aztec radio flagship station AM 600 KOGO.
San Diego State improved to 9-2 for the fifth time in the Division I era and the second time in as many seasons on Monday night with an 86-76 victory over Navy. The Aztecs shook off the rust from an eight-day layoff between games to overcome an eight-point second-half deficit on the strength of a 13-0 run to extend its Cox Arena-record winning streak to 11 games.
Junior forward Lorrenzo Wade led five Aztec players in double figures with a team-high 18 points, four rebounds and three steals. Freshman forward Billy White added 17 points and seven rebounds, while junior forward Kyle Spain narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Jon Pastorek, making his first career start, reached double figures for the second time in his career with 10 points (going 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line). Junior guard Kelvin Davis came off the bench to score 15 points and add four rebounds, while junior point guard Richie Williams needed just 17 minutes to post seven points and dish out a game-high seven assists.
Saturday opens a particularly challenging portion of San Diego State's schedule, as the Aztecs' next six opponents all own winning records. The Aztecs next two opponents, Arizona (8-2, ranked second in the RPI) and Sam Houston State (9-0, ranked 29th in the RPI), are a combined 16-2 and both are ranked in the top 29 of the RPI.
Arizona is 8-2 and won its fifth consecutive game of the season on Wednesday night, with a 52-49 victory at UNLV. Jordan Hill led the way with 16 points and 19 rebounds. The Wildcats are second in the nation in the RPI, marking the second time this season the Aztecs have faced the number two RPI team in the country at game time (Saint Mary's, currently ranked third in the RPI was number two when the Aztecs played the Gaels on Dec. 8).
This is the 24th meeting between the Aztecs and the Wildcats, with Arizona owning an 18-5 series advantage. UA has won five consecutive meetings with SDSU's last victory in the series coming in Ronald Reagan's first-term in the White House, a 90-80 decision on Dec. 17, 1983, at the San Diego Sports Arena.
Arizona has won 12 of the 13 all-time meetings in Tucson, including five in a row. SDSU's lone road victory in the series came on Dec. 9, 1971, when the Aztecs claimed a 69-67 decision. The Aztecs have been competitive in Tucson during the Wildcats' run. SDSU's last four losses at the McKale Center have been by a combined 23 points, including three losses by six points or less during that stretch.
This is the fourth meeting this decade between the two basketball programs, with the series scheduled to continue the next two seasons (2008-09 in Tucson and 2009-2010 in San Diego).
