End Of An Era: San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell finished his Aztec career ranked fourth in passing TDs (46), third in career passing yards (7,689) and second in completions (664), attempts (1,151), total offense (9,001) and starts (33). He is the SDSU career leader in most rushing yards (1,312) and most rushing touchdowns (19) by a quarterback.
For the season, O'Connell is fifth in attempts (439), sixth in completions (257), ninth in passing yards (3,063) and fourth in total offense (3,471).
7 Running For 6: San Diego State senior quarterback Kevin O'Connell recorded his 18th and 19th career rushing touchdowns and his 10th and 11th of the season in the first quarter. Both marks are school records. O'Connell has at least one rushing TDs in each of his final three outings and in six of eight conference games in 2007. This is the third time this season and in his career that O'Connell has two or more rushing scores in the same contest.
With his 408 yards rushing this season, O'Connell became the first Aztec to lead the team in both rushing and passing in the same campaign.
Swain's Senior Goodbye: SDSU senior wideout Brett Swain had a career-high 10 catches tonight, surpassing his previous personal-best of eight at New Mexico in 2006. Ranked second in the MWC in receiving yards per outing in 2007, Swain ended his career with 1,893 receiving yards, including 98 tonight.
Swain's 10 receptions are the most by an Aztec since Jeff Webb had 13 versus Hawai'i in Dec. 2005.
Schilens Keeps It Going: Chaz Schilens capped his Aztec career with a bang, recording 100 or more yards receiving in each of his final three games. Schilens had 215 yards versus Air Force, 174 yards last week vs. TCU and 106 yards tonight. This marks the 17th time in school history that a player has caught at least 100 yards receiving in three-straight games. Schilens is the first Aztec to accomplish the feat since Kassim Osgood in 2002. Schilens eight catches tonight tie his career high also set against Air Force and at Hawai'i in 2005.
40+ For 14: Playing in his final collegiate outing, Aztec place-kicker Garrett Palmer made his 16th and 17th career field goals of 40 or more yards in the second quarter. Palmer, who nailed a pair of 41-yarders, made each of his last eight attempts and is 13-for-15 on the season. Palmer has two or more 40-yard field goals in the same game four other times in his career, including earlier this year at ASU.
Back On Track: After not tallying an interception for the first time in 2007 last week vs. TCU, the SDSU defense rebounded with its 16th pick of the year in the first half. Senior safety Corey Boudreaux logged his third INT of the year, and his second in the last three outings. SDSU's 16 interceptions this season are the program's second-most since the 1995 campaign (the Aztecs had 18 INTs in 2005).
It's A Drive: The Aztecs had two scoring drives of over five minutes tonight. SDSU only had one scoring drive this season of more than five minutes at Colorado State (5:36). The Aztecs' scoring drive in the third quarter of 5:43 was the team's longest of the year in teams of time elapsed.
Season Offensive Notes: The Aztecs' 19 rushing TDs are its most since 1996, when the team had 22 ... SDSU's 16 scores through the air doubled its season total from a year ago ... SDSU had 300 or more yards of total offense in nine of 12 games after doing so only four times in 2006.
Turnover Margin:San Diego State and BYU were even at one apiece in turnovers tonight. Out of 12 games, SDSU had an even or positive turnover margin in 10 outings. SDSU had just 16 total turnovers in its 12 contests this season, while forcing 22 ... SDSU ended the year with just seven fumbles lost, fewest by an Aztec team since the 1997 team also lost seven ... The Aztecs' 13 total fumbles tie as the lowest in school history with the 1992 squad.
Other Notes: Junior Michael Stewart logged his first career start at cornerback ... Wide receiver Brett Swain has a reception in 26 straight games ... Defensive end Nick Osborn has a tackle in 38 straight outings, while linebacker Russell Allen has one in each of his last 36 games ... Ray Bass collected his third career game in double-figure tackles, while Jerry Milling added a career-best nine stops (prev. high 3 at AFA).
