SAN DIEGO - San Diego State has named Matt Soria its new men's basketball director of operations on Tuesday. The Aztecs' former director of player development takes over operations duties immediately, following Mark Fisher's move into the coaching ranks as an SDSU assistant coach.
"Matt has been here for seven years and has done a phenomenal job," San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher said. "We are thrilled that he is going to have another area of responsibility and opportunity for us. He is another guy that we don't talk a lot about, but is extremely important to the success of this program."
As director of basketball operations, Soria will handle day-to-day operations, including scheduling, summer camps and organizing all aspects of team travel.
Soria previously was SDSU's director of player development for three seasons where he coordinated video breakdown, travel and community service events, in addition to assisting with day-to-day office duties.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to continue my development in this profession," Soria said. "I look forward to learning from Coach Fisher and the other members of the coaching staff."
Prior to being named the director of player development, Soria was a three-year manager for the Aztecs where he served as the team's head manager for the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
Soria graduated from San Diego State with a bachelor's degree in political science in Decemeber 2002, and earned his master's degree in educational technology from SDSU in December 2006.
Before transferring to San Diego State, Soria played collegiate basketball for two seasons at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif.
