SAN DIEGO -

MWC Tournament Bracket

With a win over TCU in Friday's regular-season finale and losses by BYU and Utah in those two team's final regular-season contests, the San Diego State women's soccer team earned the No. 2 seed in the Mountain West Conference Tournament which begins on Wednesday in Provo, Utah. By earning the second seed, the Aztecs clinch a bye in the first round and await the winner of the match up between No. 3 seed BYU and sixth-seed TCU in the second round at 4 p.m. MT on Thursday.

SDSU knew entering Friday afternoon's game that it had a lot on the line in terms of seeding. When freshman Lauren Marquez scored her first career goal in the 98th minute against TCU to give the Aztecs the 1-0 victory, the team immediately turned to scoreboard watching.

The first domino fell when UNLV defeated BYU 1-0 in double overtime Friday night, giving the Rebels their second outright regular-season conference title.

The second-seed in the conference tournament was clinched when Utah fell on Saturday to Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo., 4-1.

The win over the Horned Frogs gave the Aztecs a 4-2-1 record in MWC action, 9-7-3 overall, marking their best conference record since 2000 when SDSU went 4-2-0

The Scarlet and Black will travel to the campus of BYU on Tuesday in preparation for its opening game of the tournament. Both semifinal matches are slated for Thursday while the winners advance to compete in the MWC Women's Soccer Championship title match on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT. The triumphant team in the championship game will receive an automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Women's College Cup.

Both semifinal games and the title match will be televised live on the The Mtn.-The Mountain West Sports Network with Bill Riley of Sports Radio 700 The Zone in Salt Lake City, Utah, and SDSU Sports Network analyst Tammy Blackburn on the call.
