With the Loss: SDSU dropped to 0-3 all-time against TCU ... The Aztecs' 33 points are their most in the series.
Fumbles 4 Us: SDSU recovered three fumbles tonight with two coming on defense and the other on special teams. Junior Vonnie Holmes and redshirt freshman Martrell Fantroy each recovered their first career fumbles, while it was the second of senior Ornan Nwansi's career. Junior Travis Crawford logged his first career forced fumble on the TCU kickoff return and safety Ray Bass added his second career forced fumble in the fourth quarter. This is the first time since the Utah game on Oct. 13, that SDSU has recovered a fumble. The three fumbles recovered are the Aztecs' most in a game since Dec. 3, 2005, at Hawai'i, when they also recovered three.
The Big Play: Aztec quarterback Kevin O'Connell's 97-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens is the longest pass play in San Diego State history, with the previous being a 92-yard pass from Brian Sipe to Robert West at Fresno State in 1971.
The 97-yard play is second-longest from scrimmage in program history, trailing only Phil Prokop's 98-yard run on Oct. 11, 1952, in a win over Pepperdine. It is also the longest offensive play ever allowed by TCU.
Schilens Shines Again: Aztec senior wideout Chaz Schilens has recorded his second consecutive 100-yard receiving game and the third of his career. Schilens had a career-high eight receptions for 215 yards last week at Air Force and followed that up with six catches for 174 yards, including a career-long 97-yard TD reception, vs. TCU.
Schilens is the first Aztec to record consecutive 100-yard receiving games since Jeff Webb finished his SDSU career with 115 yards versus Wyoming and 142 yards at Hawai'i to end the 2005 campaign.
O'Connell Through The Air: Aztec quarterback Kevin O'Connell threw for 366 yards and two touchdowns. He has three, 300-yard passing games this season, including in each of his last two outings, and four total for his career. The last time an SDSU player logged consecutive 300-yard passing games was Adam Hall in 2002, when he threw for 319 yards against UNLV and 335 yards versus Wyoming.
O'Connell's two TD tosses are the 44th and 45th of his career, moving him into fourth on the all-time Aztec list. He also added his 17th career rushing TD and his ninth of the year, eight of which have come in MWC play.
Double Their Pleasure: Aztec safety Corey Boudreaux and linebackers Russell Allen and Luke Laolagi all recorded double-figures in tackles tonight. It is Boudreaux's third career game with 10 or more stops, Allen's sixth such outing and the fourth of Laolagi's career. Tonight is SDSU's second contest this season with three or more players recording double-figure tackle totals (also at Utah).
Back On The Plus Side: San Diego State owned a plus-three turnover margin tonight against TCU, its ninth game this season with an even or positive turnover margin. The Azteccs did not commit a turnover for the second time in 2007 (also vs. Portland State). SDSU has just 15 total turnovers in its 11 contests this season, while forcing 21.
Other Notes: Aztec redshirt freshman running back Davon Brown scored his first career rushing TD in the first quarter. He is the sixth different SDSU player to record a rushing score this season ... San Diego State scored first today marking the sixth time in 11 games this season the Aztecs have posted the first points ... Wide receiver Brett Swain has a reception in 25 straight games ... Defensive end Nick Osborn has a tackle in 37 straight outings, while linebacker Russell Allen has one in each of his last 35 games ... Place-kicker Garrett Palmer logged his 45th and 46th career field goals tonight, including and his 15th career kick from 40 or more yards. Palmer has made each of his last six field-goal attempts and is 11-for-13 on the season ... Michael Hughes logged his 17th and 18th punts this season of 50 or more yards ... SDSU's streak of 11 consecutive games with an interception came to an end tonight.
