LOS ANGELES - Redshirt freshman Allison Duffy (Lakeside, Calif.) recorded her second career double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the San Diego State women's basketball team past Jackson State, 63-44, in the consolation game of the Loyola Marymount/Ayres Hotel Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. The Aztecs, who outscored the Lady Tigers (1-3), 30-18, in the second half, improved to 4-1 with the victory.
Duffy was 6-for-16 from the field and made 3-of-4 free-throw attempts. She added a career-high seven steals and two blocks in 36 minutes.
Sophomore Jené Morris (San Francisco, Calif.) added 15 points, 12 coming in the second half, and four rebounds. She was 6-of-7 from the floor and 2-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Sophomore Quenese Davis (Sacramento, Calif.) chipped in with 13 points and a game-high five assists, while freshman Paris Johnson (San Diego, Calif.), who was named to the all-tournament team, had seven points and eight rebounds.
San Diego State led by as many as 14 in the first half when Morris connected on a 3-point attempt with 5:21 remaining. Jackson State, however, went on a 7-0 run over the next 3:55 before Duffy's jumper at the buzzer gave the Aztecs a 33-26 halftime lead.
The Lady Tigers got within three points at 33-30, 1:42 into the second half on an Erica Trahan jumper, but San Diego State responded with a 21-6 run over the next 11:21, capped by a Morris jumper with 6:57 remaining to put the Aztecs up 18 at 54-36. SDSU outscored Jackson State, 7-0, over the final 2:57 as San Diego State claimed the 63-44 victory.
The Aztecs held the Lady Tigers to just 29.3 percent shooting (17-for-58) for the game and owned a 45-39 rebounding edge.
LaSharee Chirstan (13 points) and Carena Easley (10 points, nine rebounds) each scored in double-figures for Jackson State.
San Diego State continues its three-game trip away from The Mesa with a game at Cal Poly at 7 p.m. Thursday.
