SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Aime Cordeiro has been named to the 2007 all-Mountain West Conference team as the league's co-Libero of the Year. The senior from nearby Santee, Calif. (West Hills HS) shared the co-libero award with UNLV senior Jada Walker. Cordeiro was named the 2007 preseason all-MWC libero this past August and received post-season recognition for the second time during her four-year Aztec career.
Cordeiro led the Mountain West Conference in digs in league play, finishing with an average of 5.47 per game. Entering the MWC tournament this week, her average of 6.14 dpg overall also led the league and ranked 10th in the nation.
Earlier this season, Cordeiro set a conference record when she notched 46 digs in the match against Northern Illinois on Sept. 8. Three days later, she recorded 44 digs in the match vs. Cal State Fullerton to establish an MWC mark for most digs in a four-game match.
In addition to establishing a school record with her 46 digs, she has also set the Aztec single-season and career marks in that category. Her current 2007 total of 645 digs has eclipsed the total of 573 she set last season. With 1,961 digs over the past four seasons, she has broken Jackie Mendez's mark of 1,678, a record that had stood since 1988.
Earlier today, Cordeiro had 19 digs in the Aztec's victory over Air Force in the first round of the MWC tourney. SDSU advances to face top-seeded Colorado State on Thursday, Nov. 22. That match, which will be televised live on The Mtn, will start 40 minutes after the conclusion of the contest between TCU and Utah scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
