Aztecs Look to Remain Perfect Saturday Afternoon at California
The Aztecs (5-0) continue their tour of the Golden State with their fifth game of the season away from Cox Arena on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., for a match-up with California (2-0).

Game time between the two unbeaten squads is set for 3 p.m. PST. There is no television coverage for the game, but the contest can be heard on XTRA Sports 1360 in San Diego. Chris Ello will call the action from Haas Pavilion.

San Diego State, which is off to its fifth best start of the Division I era and the third-best of any Steve Fisher-coached team, is coming off a 69-64 road victory over cross-town rival San Diego at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Monday night.

The Aztecs used precise shooting and a suffocating defense to turn an early four-point second-half deficit into a five-point victory. SDSU finished the game with a field-goal and three-point shooting percentage of 60 percent and forced the Toreros into 25 turnovers, 15 of which were San Diego State steals.

Four Aztecs scored in double figures with Lorrenzo Wade leading the way with 14. For the season, five SDSU players are averaging more than 10 points and five are shooting at least 54 percent from the field.

California is undefeated after two games having beat Southern Miss and Nicholls State at home. The Golden Bears are led by Patrick Christopher who comes into the non-conference tilt with 21.5 points per game average, Ryan Anderson (19.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and DeVon Hardin (10.5 ppg, 14.0 rpg). Both Anderson and Hardin are on the preseason Naismith Trophy watch list, while Anderson is a preseason candidate for the Wooden Award.

Saturday will mark just the seventh all-time meeting between the schools in a series that is tied at 3-3. Of the six previous get-togethers, only two have taken place in Berkeley with the Aztecs winning in 1941 and California earning the decision in 2005.

This is also the fourth straight season in which the teams have met with the Bears taking two of the last three. SDSU, however, emerged victorious with an 86-79 win at Cox Arena on national television last year.

In a season where the Aztecs played three games in three days in Fresno, traveled across town to USD and with the trip to Northern California on Saturday, SDSU will get no reprieve as it will remain on the road for a game at Loyola Marymount on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The contest at LMU will put to rest a season-opening stretch where the Aztecs play six of their first seven games away from Montezuma Mesa.
