LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The San Diego State divers traveled north to the Trojan Diving Invitational held at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium. All six Aztecs competed in the one- and three-meter springboard events on Friday.
Sophomore Caitlin Atkinson led the way for SDSU in the one-meter board, advancing to the finals after finishing fifth in the six-dive, preliminary round with a score of 231.55. Also making the cut for the finals were Keely Brooks and Kristen Maurer, who qualified with a 10th and 13th-place finish, respectively.
Atkinson went on to place seventh in the finals with a point total of 229.00. Brooks finished ninth (227.20) and Maurer recorded a score of 215.15, which was good enough for 11th-place.
In the three-meter event, Atkinson was the only Aztec to reach the finals, where she finished 12th with a score of 220.80. Also competing in the preliminary round were Megan Flanagan (15th, 209.65), Kathleen Heuring (16th, 206.10), Maurer (18th, 203.10), Amy Freeberg (19th, 189.20), and Brooks (21st, 188.20).
Four Aztecs will be competing in the platform event at the Trojan Diving Invitational tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
