The San Diego State men's soccer team outshot Washington, 11-7, but had to settle for a 1-1, double-overtime tie Sunday afternoon at SDSU Sports Deck. With the tie, the Aztecs (8-7-4, 4-4-2 Pac-10) finished in a tie for second in the Pac-10 with 14 points with UCLA (4-4-2) and Stanford (4-4-2). It is the second consecutive season that SDSU finished runner-up in the Pac-10.

After a first half that saw very few scoring chances with the exception of a Husky (8-7-4, 3-4-3 Pac-10) goal by Raphael Cox in the fourth minute, San Diego State came out firing in the second period with the majority of the quality scoring opportunities.

It started in the 55th minute when sophomore Nick Cardenas rifled a shot from 25 yards out that was stopped by Washington goalkeeper Stephen Fung.

A few minutes later, senior Freddy McDonald headed a throw in from sophomore Matt McManus off the crossbar and senior Kraig Chiles (San Diego/Poway HS) guided the ball into the left corner for his eighth goal of the season and 21st of his career.

Chiles had another chance in the 65th minute but his header hit the crossbar and landed on the lap of Fung. A minute later, senior Matt Lemire had his close shot from the right side just miss the near post. The Aztecs' final good scoring opportunity came off the head of Cardenas in the 80th minute but was stopped once again by Fung.

Chiles and Lemire each had a game-high three shots for SDSU, while Cardenas added two attempts on goal.

Junior Jorge Rosales (2-5-2) played all 110 minutes and made two saves.

The match marked the final regular season game for Aztec seniors Chiles, David Dally, Lemire and McDonald.

San Diego State will await a possible NCAA bid, which will be announced on ESPNews between 2:30 and 3 p.m. Monday.

MEN OF THE MATCH: The four Aztec seniors - Kraig Chiles, David Dally, Matt Lemire and Freddy McDonald - were named Men of the Match after helping the team to a 1-1 tie in their final regular season game. The quartet combined for eight shots, one goal and one assist in 345 minutes of action.
