LAS VEGAS (AP) -- San Diego State quarterback Kevin O'Connell threw for two touchdowns and 196 yards to lead the Aztecs to a 38-30 win over UNLV in a Mountain West Conference game on Saturday night.
O'Connell went 17-of-23 and threw for one interception. He converted his first 11 passes, all coming in the first half, as the Aztecs built to a 21-0 lead by halftime.
Brandon Sullivan rushed for 70 yards and caught for 68 for San Diego State (4-5, 3-2 conference).
The Rebels (2-8, 1-5) got on the board when Travis Dixon found Rodelin Anthony for a 31-yard pass down the middle with 8:27 left in the third.
After the Rebels (2-8, 1-5) scored 17 unanswered to start the half, Aztecs kickoff returner Mekell Wesley went 89 yards down the right side for a touchdown with 13:19 left in the game.
The Aztecs led 31-23 in the fourth, holding off two late UNLV potential tying drives, and Martell Fantroy's interception for a 55-yard touchdown return with 1:15 left sealed it, 38-23.
UNLV running back Frank Summers rushed for 187 yards on 26 carries. Rebels backup quarterback Travis Dixon (13-of-22) threw for 185 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
Rebels starting quarterback Omar Clayton fractured his metacarpal on his right throwing hand late in the first quarter and did not return. He finished 5-of-7 for 22 yards.
