LARAMIE, Wyo. - After not having played a competitive match the past two weeks, the San Diego State volleyball team was unable to find its rhythm as it fell to Wyoming in three games (30-25, 30-24, 30-24) Thursday night in Laramie. The loss was the fifth straight for the Aztecs, who fell to 11-10 overall and 3-7 in the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming, meanwhile, evened its record at 11-11 (5-8 MWC).
The Aztecs were led by freshman Lauren Salisbury and senior Lindsey Mahan with 11 and 10 kills receptively. Salisbury, who hit .526 for the match, also had a match-high six blocks. Mahan added three blocks and a pair of digs while leading all players with a .562 attack percentage.
The twosome accounted for 21 of SDSU's 38 kills on the evening as the rest of the squad hit -.041 over the three games. The Cowgirls held the advantage in every offensive category except blocking where San Diego State had the edge for the 18th time in its 21 matches this season.
Senior libero Aime Cordeiro had her usual steady game in the back row as she accounted for 14 digs, three assists and a kill.
Setter Kristen Castillo finished with 23 assists, three kills, an ace, seven digs and a pair of blocks over the three games while fellow setter Leah Lathrop had nine assists in the two games in which she played.
Wyoming had four players end the evening in double figure in kills lead by 13 from Rachel Smith. Others in that group included Angie Hellbaum (12), Lauren Whitney (10) and Lauren Scott (10). The Cowgirls totaled 54 kills to 38 by the Aztecs and compiled an attack percentage of .283 compared to SDSU's .150.
The Aztecs now have a quick turnaround as they will be in Colorado Springs Friday evening (Nov. 2) to take on Air Force at 7:00 p.m. (MDT). They will then return home to face 20th-ranked Colorado State on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in Peterson Gym.
