SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior defensive back Scotty James (Elsinore, Calif.) has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII football second team, announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). James is the second Aztec to earn all-academic honors from CoSIDA in as many seasons, as center Patrick Justman was a first team honoree in 2006.

A former walk-on, James boasts a 3.37 grade-point average in social science. He was the team's starting cornerback in the opening four games of 2007, and has seen action in five games overall. James has logged a career-best 12 tackles this season, including a career-high five stops in the team's win over Portland State.

James has previously earned the team's President's Award for Highest Standards of Academic and Athletic Excellence and was a two-time SDSU scholar-athlete during the 2006 calendar year.

To be eligible for the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be a significant contributor to the team, and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII is comprised of all NCAA Division I schools from California, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Utah.
