KAPOLEI, Hawaii - The San Diego State women's golf team closed out its 2007 fall campaign with a 15th-place finish Wednesday in an elite field at the Kent Youel Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii. The Aztecs, who jumped four slots from 18th to 14th after the second round, posted a 322 in the final 18 holes for a two-day total of 87-over 951. Top-ranked UCLA won the event by a four-stroke margin over No. 4 USC with a 54-hole score of 17-over 881 at the par-72, 6,140-yard Kapolei Golf Course.
SDSU was led by freshman Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.), who finished in a tie for 33rd place at 17-over 233. Arcala bounced back from a first-round 83, shaving off 10 strokes with a career-best 73 late Tuesday afternoon. The freshman continued to find success on day two, as the only Aztec to card a score in the 70s, with a 5-over 77. Arcala ended the fall campaign as the team's top finisher in each of the final two events.
Classmate Kaitlen Miyajima (Wailuku, Hawaii) tied for 50th place in the field of 102 golfers with an 81 for a 54-hole total of 21-over 237. Freshman Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), who posted matching rounds of 79 on day one, dropped over 20 places in the individual standings with an 84 to finish in a tie for 71st with a 242.
Junior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) was three strokes behind Roberts with a 245, including a final round 81, while junior Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) tied for 85th place at 249.
UCLA's Tiffany Joh and Maria Jose Uribe tied for first place on the individual leaderboard with matching efforts of 1-over 217. The Bruins were two in front of a pair of USC golfers, Belen Mozo and Joanne Lee, who both carded 2-over 218.
San Diego State will resume action with the start of its spring schedule next February at the Lady Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif.
