SINGLES | DOUBLES | CONSOLATION
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Julia Trunk (Bad Saulgau, Germany) saw her magical run through the singles main draw come to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Aztecs completed the fourth day of the Wilson/ITA West Regional Championships at Barnes Tennis Center.
Trunk, who had won five matches in three days to reach the semifinals, was unable to get past ninth-seeded Elena Gantcheva of UNLV. Trunk won the first set, but Gantcheva stormed back for the 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. In the other semifinal match, fourth-seeded Nadia Abdala of Arizona State defeated No. 10 seed Amanda Fink of USC, 6-3, 6-4. Gantcheva and Fink will square off in the championship match on Monday at 10 a.m. PT.
Junior Holly Bagshaw was the only other Aztec still in action on Sunday, but she dropped her quarterfinal match in the consolation draw to USC's Maria Sanchez, 0-6, 6-2, 10-6.
The doubles champion was also determined as Amanda Fink and Gabi Niculescu of USC defeated Arizona State's Nadia Abdala and Laila Abdala, 9-7, for the title.
The singles finalists and doubles champion from this weekend's event earn automatic berths into the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
