The 18th-ranked San Diego State men's soccer team fell to 3-2-0 in Pac-10 play with a 2-0 loss to Oregon State Sunday afternoon in Corvallis, Ore. The Aztecs (7-4-2 overall) had seven shots on goal but were unable to find the net as the Beavers' (5-8-0, 2-3-0 Pac-10) goalkeeper Packy Deenihan stopped all SDSU shots on frame.
San Diego State and California sit in a tie for second in the standings after the first half of Pac-10 play with nine points at 3-2-0, one point behind UCLA (10 points, 3-1-1). Oregon State is fourth (six, 2-3-0), followed by Stanford (five, 1-2-2) and Washington (four, 1-3-1).
It was just San Diego State's second loss in its last 10 matches and second defeat in its past 10 Pac-10 games. SDSU is 8-3-3 over its last 14 league matches.
Redshirt senior Kraig Chiles (San Diego/Poway HS) had a game-high tying four shots, including two on net, to pace the Aztec offense. Sophomore Evan Toft had two attempts, while six others contributed a shot apiece.
Making his third start of the season, junior goalkeeper Jorge Rosales (1-2-0) made five saves in 90 minutes.
Josh Cameron (23rd minute) and Nick Webb (64th minute) each scored for Oregon State.
SDSU will return to Montezuma Mesa this weekend for games against Washington (3 p.m. Friday) and Oregon State (noon Sunday).
MAN OF THE MATCH: Senior Kraig Chiles earned Man of the Match honors after recording a game-high tying four shots, including two on net. Chiles has four goals on 15 shots over his last four matches.
