The San Diego State women's golf team slipped from fourth to eighth after the second and final round at the Aztec Fall Classic Tuesday at the par-72, 6,216-yard Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, Calif. The Aztecs, who played host to their lone home event of the season, recorded a 318 in the final 18 holes to end up at 46-over 622.
UC Irvine claimed the team and individual titles, as the Anteaters posted a 10-stroke victory over East Tennessee State and Hawaii with a tournament best 17-over 593. UCI's Patty Chawalitmetha earned medalist honors by three strokes as the lone golfer in the 104-player field to finish under par with a 2-under 142, including an even-par 72 in the second round.
The Aztec `A' team struggled to find its rhythm Tuesday as four of five players logged scores in the 80s. Junior Alana Erlandson (Palm Desert, Calif.) dropped from fourth to 33rd place with a 10-over 82, while freshman Kaitlien Miyajima (Wailuku, Hawaii) and junior Jackie Kazarian (Dana Point, Calif.) carded the same scores for the second day in a row at 8-over 80 to end up tied for 39th.
SDSU junior Maki Kamimura (West Covina, Calif.) bounced back from an opening day 81, to record the team's best performance with a 77. Senior Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) rounded out the starting five with an 81 to end up tied for 55th at 16-over 160.
The SDSU `B' squad finished 14th overall, but got strong performances from freshmen Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), who both fired 75s. Arcala was the highest Aztec finisher in a tie for 17th place at 8-over 152, while Roberts tied for 33rd with Erlandson.
San Diego State completes its short fall schedule in two weeks at the Kent Youel Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii, Oct. 30-31.
