COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior linebacker Russell Allen (Oceanside, Calif../Vista HS) has been named a Co-Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week the league announced Monday. It is Allen's second career weekly award.

Allen broke a 36-year old school record with 22 tackles, including 10 solo stops, in Saturday's loss at Utah. Allen's 22 tackles are one shy of the MWC record and are tied for the second most tackles by a Bowl Subdivision player this season. In addition, the 22 tackles tied the Rice-Eccles stadium record held by Brian Urlacher (New Mexico, 1999).

Allen recorded his first career sack and had 1.5 tackles for loss in the game. Eleven of his stops resulted in gains of four yards or less and 14 of his 22 tackles resulted in the Utes being held short of the first down marker.

SDSU (2-4, 1-1 MWC) plays host to New Mexico in its annual Homecoming game this Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
