SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's basketball program and Arizona have signed a home-and-home contract that will guarantee the two schools will meet in 2008-09 and 2009-10. The agreement ensures both teams will face each other for a fourth consecutive season after its game in `09-10.
"We are very excited to continue the series with Arizona," said SDSU head coach Steve Fisher. "It has been great for both teams. Our fans have enjoyed being able to watch a top-10 program on a regular basis at Cox Arena. We are always looking to play a national-caliber schedule year-in and year-out and playing a program like Arizona ensures that."
Following this year's contest in Tucson, the Aztecs will return to the McKale Memorial Center on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, for the first of a two-game set. Then in `09-10, SDSU will play host to the Wildcats inside Cox Arena on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.
The meeting in `09-10 will not only mark the fourth consecutive meeting between the schools, but it will also mark the sixth time both West Region programs have faced one another during Steve Fisher's tenure at San Diego State.
Two of the Aztecs' five sellouts at Cox Arena have come when Arizona has visited Montezuma Mesa and both came when the Wildcats were ranked in the top 15 nationally. In 2002, Arizona came to SDSU as the nation's top-ranked team and last season were ranked 14th/15th (AP/Coaches) at game time.
This year, San Diego State and Arizona will square off against one another on Dec. 22 in Tucson. The game is designated as the Fiesta Bowl Classic and will tip at 1 p.m. MT on FSN Arizona.
