ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State's offense was unable to get on track Friday evening as it was dealt a 30-26, 30-18, 30-25 loss by New Mexico in Albuquerque. The loss dropped SDSU to 11-7 overall as it fell below the .500 mark in league play for the first time this season at 3-4. UNM, meanwhile, improved to 1-5 (5-2 MWC).
The Aztecs were led by senior Lindsey Mahan and freshman Lauren Salisbury, who tallied 10 kills and four blocks apiece. In addition, libero Aime Cordeiro led all players with 23 digs over the three games while setters Leah Lathrop and Amy Castillo had 17 and 12 assists respectively.
New Mexico had a trio of players in double figures in kills and was paced by 23 by Jeanne Fairchild. Joining her in double figures were teammates Anna Lehne with 11 and Lisa Meeter with10.
The Lobos' offensive superiority was evidenced by their .302 hitting percentage compared to just .102 for SDSU. UNM totaled 60 kills for the match while holding the Aztecs to 36.
The only area in which San Diego State was superior was in blocking where it finished with an 8-6 advantage. It marked the 16th time in 18 matches this season that the Aztecs recorded more blocks in a match than their opponent.
SDSU will now make have a quick turnaround as it travels to Fort Worth where it will face TCU on Saturday (Oct. 13) at 7:00 p.m. (CDT).
