SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team wrapped up their first tournament of the fall season at the SDSU Fall Classic on Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. Junior Holly Bagshaw wasn't able to complete her title run in singles play, but the Aztecs' trio of doubles teams each picked up a victory.
In Flight 1 singles action, Bagshaw and Anamika Bhargava of Pepperdine, who were both 2-0 on the weekend, squared off in the finals. Bagshaw appeared to be on her way to the title after winning the first set 6-4, but Bhargava stormed back to take the championship, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Junior Esther Cadua defeated classmate Milana Yusupov in the consolation finals, 6-4, 6-2. In additional matches, senior Eliska Krausova defeated Denver's Kyla Iwinski, 7-5, 6-0, while freshman Julia Trunk dispatched Denver's Julia Bauregger, 6-4, 6-1.
Freshman Olivia Colman also picked up a win in Flight 2 singles action, defeating Varsha Shiva Shankar of Rice, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play, all three Aztec duos were successful on Sunday. Yusupov and Bagshaw recorded an 8-6 triumph over Bauregger and Iwinski of Denver in a compass draw. In other compass draws, Cadua and Trunk defeated Lee/Lin of Rice, 8-5, while Colman and sophomore Ozge Atalay downed USD's Perl and Faulkner, 8-6.
