Aztec Women's Soccer Falls to Arizona State, 3-0

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State senior Courtney Crane scored 55 seconds into the game and the Sun Devils never looked back en route to defeating the San Diego State women's soccer team, 3-0, on Friday night in Tempe, Ariz.

The loss was the third in four games for the Aztecs and drops their overall record to 3-4-2. The victory snaps the Sun Devils' two-game losing streak and improves their season mark to 5-4.

SDSU continued to struggle on offense managing only three shots on goal while being shutout for the fourth time this season.

ASU got on the board early when Crane redirected a corner kick from junior Kylla Sjoman and scored her second goal of the season.

SDSU kept Arizona State off the board for the rest of the first half as freshman goalkeeper Aubree Southwick made three of her five overall saves.

In the second half, the Sun Devils tacked on two more goals. The first came when Crane was able to dribble past Southwick and net her second goal of the game in the 52nd minute.

The final goal of the contest was scored at the 60:09 mark when senior Lauren Niblett dribbled through the Aztec defense to tally her second goal of 2007.

For the game, the Sun Devils outshot SDSU, 21-6, including a 9-3 edge in the shots on net category.

Senior Jackie Ragudos, freshman Katie Tribbey and junior Adriana Aguillon each attempted a shot on goal for San Diego State.

The Aztecs will look to rebound on Sunday as they wrap up their four-game road trip in Tucson, Ariz., against the Arizona Wildcats. Kickoff is set to begin at 1 p.m.
