Volleyball Falls At Colorado State In Three Games

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - San Diego State was unable to generate any sustained offensive attack as it fell to Colorado State in three games (18-30, 21-30, 22-30) Thursday night in Fort Collins. With the win, the first-place Rams improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztecs, meanwhile, fell to 10-5 while evening their league mark at 2-2.

SDSU was led by eight kills from senior Sydney De Turk who also had a pair of blocks. Lindsey Mahan and Lauren Salisbury had six kills apiece with the latter notching a team-high three blocks on the evening.

Aztec senior libero had 14 digs with Hannah Evans chipping in with10. Setter Leah Lathrop, who missed SDSU's last match with an injury, returned with a team-leading 14 assists along with four digs and a pair of service aces.

Colorado State's Jaime Strauss led all players with 13 kills and completed a double-double with 10 digs while teammate Mekana Barnes had 11 kills and three blocks.

SDSU's offensive woes were evidenced by its .092 hitting percentage over the three games compared to the .344 attack percentage generated by the Rams. It was San Diego State's lowest hitting percentage in a match this season.

Colorado Stare also recorded 58 kills to 34 for the Aztecs and also held the edge in blocks by a nine-to-five margin. It was just the second time in 15 matches in 2007 that San Diego State was out-blocked by an opponent.

San Diego State will now have a week off to prepare for a visit by the Air Force Falcons scheduled for next Thursday (Oct. 4) at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
