WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - San Diego State's Jamel Wallace (San Diego/Oceanside HS) has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Tuesday. It is the first career weekly award for the redshirt sophomore and first by an Aztec this season.
Wallace scored two goals over the weekend to help SDSU to a pair of victories and the UNLV Tournament title. Wallace, who was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday, tallied the game-winner in the Aztecs' 1-0 win over Missouri State on Friday. He added another goal in San Diego State's 2-1, double-overtime victory over Drake on Saturday.
Following the goals, Wallace moved to the central back position to help solidify the SDSU defense.
Wallace leads the 2007 Aztecs in goals (three) and minutes played (628), while his six points are tied with teammate Kraig Chiles for most on the squad.
San Diego State plays host to No. 25 UC Irvine this Saturday at 2 p.m.
