KANE'OHE, HAWAII - The San Diego State cross country squad, led by Lisa Naucler, placed second at the 4K Big Wave Invitational on Saturday morning at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course on the Marine Corps Base Hawai`i in Kane'ohe, O'ahu. The Aztecs had six athletes finish in the top 20, highlighted by Naucler's eighth-place effort, and had all eight of their athletes finish in the top 32.

"I am very pleased with the team's effort today," assistant coach Jennifer Nanista said. "This morning we ran solid as a pack and we are certainly heading in the right direction."

Naucler, the Mountain West Conference athlete of the week, continued her strong running as registered a time of 15 minutes, 13 seconds. Her eighth-place performance is her first top-10 effort since the 2005 season when she came in seventh place at the Santa Clara Invitational. The senior's team-best performance marked the third consecutive meet in which she has logged SDSU's best time.

Following Naucler for the second straight week was Stephanie Armstrong, who went into the meet having put forth a season-best effort at the Aztec Invitational. The sophomore from Foothill Ranch, Calif., came in 12th place with a time of 15:43 and was followed by classmate Darien Buc in 13th with an identical time of 15:43.

Junior college transfers Kristin Glen and Alyssa Robinson were the next two Aztecs to cross the finish line in 15th (15:44) and 16th place (15:44), respectively. Rounding out San Diego State's top-20 group was fellow junior Anne Vieira who posted a 19th-place effort with her mark of (15:58)

Sophomore Makenzie Mabry (16:02) and redshirt freshman Andrea Norton (16:28) completed the SDSU contingent as they finished 21st and 32nd, respectively.

As a team, the Aztecs earned 60 points and finished behind Brigham Young (20 points). Hawai'i came in third place (104) and was followed by Hawai'i-Hilo (111), BYU-Hawai'i (119), Saint Mary's (137) and Hawai'i Pacific (141).

San Diego State's second-place finish is its best since winning the Santa Clara Invitational in 2005.

SDSU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when its `A' group races in the Stanford Invitational and its `B' squad competes in the UC Riverside Invitational.
