SAN DIEGO - The first entry in Get to Know an Aztec Softball Newcomer with GoAztecs.com, pitcher Brooke Petty.

GoAztecs.com: How have your first couple weeks of practice been?
It's been tough since I can't do anything with my (back) injury.

GoAztecs.com: How about your first couple weeks of class? What is your favorite so far?
They're actually pretty fun, I like how laid back they are. It's completely different than high school; you're so independent My favorite class is theatre because of how fun the class is.

GoAztecs.com: Why did you choose San Diego State? What other colleges were you recruited by?
(San Diego State) is close to my family. My sister goes to school down the street at Point Loma. I was looking at Portland State, Long Beach State, Sacramento State and a school in Kentucky, but I wanted to stay close to my family.

GoAztecs.com: What do you think of your teammates at SDSU so far?
I like my teammates, they're a lot of fun. The freshman clicked right away.

GoAztecs.com: What about the coaching staff?
It's a lot more intense than I thought it would be but it's not bad. It's college softball so you should expect that.

GoAztecs.com: What do you think about the getting the chance to play in SDSU Softball Stadium?
I think it's cool. I've never played on a really nice field before this so having that as our home field is so cool. I can't wait to play on it.

GoAztecs.com: Have you had a chance to play with any of your Aztec teammates prior to coming to SDSU?
No, never. I know I've played against a few of the others by them saying what teams they were on but I don't really remember.

GoAztecs.com: Do you think it is going to be hard adjusting to college pitching where the mound is three feet further back from home plate?
Not really because I played over summer in club ball and they moved the mound back to where the college mound is now.

GoAztecs.com: What do you think is your best pitch?
I would say my riseball.

GoAztecs.com: Did you play any other sports at Vista High School?
I played soccer for two years but then I decided to just focus on softball.

GoAztecs.com: What was your greatest softball memory at Vista?
My greatest softball from Vista was playing in the CIF Championship game.

GoAztecs.com: How did you spend your summer before coming to San Diego State?
I played a lot of softball, but I also tried to hang out with my friends and make it to the beach as much as possible before coming to college.

GoAztecs.com: Which game are you looking forward to most in the upcoming season and why?
I'm not looking forward to specific games but playing top teams. Playing the teams that I've grown up watching on TV will be exciting.

GoAztecs.com: What is your major at SDSU?
I'm not sure what I'm going to major in right now but I'm leaning toward sports medicine.

GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you listen to?
I love country and I like hip-hop and rap. My favorite country artist is Rascal Flatts.

GoAztecs.com: If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be and why?
I would go to Fiji or somewhere really nice because it would be very relaxing.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite professional team?
I like the San Diego Padres and the (Los Angeles) Dodgers.

GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time?
I usually just go to the beach and hang out with my friends. One of my good friends goes here so I hang out with her.

GoAztecs.com: What are some of your favorite television shows?
I like Fresh Prince (of Bel Air) and I like The Hills. I also like all the MTV shows.

GoAztecs.com: What kind of movies do you watch?
I hate scary movies but I like comedies. The funniest movie I've seen recently was Chuck and Larry.

How is being here different than being at home?
At home I can always go to the beach and do whatever but here I'm so busy. At home it's just more relaxing.
