AUGUSTA. Ga. - Senior San Diego State punter Michael Hughes has been named to the 2007 Ray Guy Award Watch List, the Greater August Sports Council announced Tuesday. The Moreno Valley, Calif., native and Canyon Springs High graduate also was on the 2006 Ray Guy Watch List.

Hughes has a career average of 41.7 yards per punt which ranks him sixth all-time at SDSU. He is also ranked third with 170 punts and 7,080 career yards. Hughes averaged a career-best 44.8 yards per punt in 2005, which puts him third on the school single-season list.

The award is determined by a national selection committee made up of sports writers, college football coaches, sports information directors, past Ray Guy Award winners and designated members of the Greater Augusta Sports Council. Some of the criteria used to select the Ray Guy winner include net yardage punted, number of times a punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents' 20-yard line and percentage of punts not returned.

The Ray Guy Award Watch List will be narrowed to 10 semifinalists in early November and three finalists by the end of the month. The award will be presented live on ESPN on Dec. 6 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
