San Diego State Director of Athletics Jeff Schemmel announced the hiring Wednesday of Bob Moosbrugger as associate athletic director for development/major gifts. This is Moosbrugger's second stint at SDSU, after working in the Aztec Athletic Foundation (AAF) as both director (2004-06) and assistant director (2000-04).

`We are thrilled to have Bob return to the Aztecs," Schemmel said. "He brings fundraising experience, familiarity with Aztec alums, friends and donors, and a great work ethic. Most importantly, he is a quality person, the kind we look for in building our successful organization."

Moosbrugger returns to The Mesa after spending the last year and a half as the director of business development at the San Diego International Sports Council. In that position, he helped bring sporting events to San Diego, including the Action Sports World Tour, the CSTV Collegiate Nationals and the Red Bull Air Race World Series. His duties also included analyzing economic impact for potential and existing events, preparing and overseeing budgets and helping to secure sponsorships.

"I am very excited to return to San Diego State," Moosbrugger said. "Over the past 18 months, one of the many items that I have come to learn and appreciate from the San Diego International Sports Council and its board of directors is their passion for the community of San Diego. I still feel the same passion for SDSU Athletics and its student-athletes. I look forward to helping our student-athletes have the very best academic and athletic experience possible."

Before leaving SDSU, he was an assistant athletics director and director of the Aztec Athletic Foundation from January 2004 to February 2006. He oversaw the department's annual campaign to raise money for student-athlete scholarships, helping the AAF secure over $1.2 million in pledges in 2004, and $1.3 million in 2005.

Moosbrugger began his career at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., from August 1994 to May 1996, as a graduate assistant for the ticket office and marketing.

He then took an assistant ticket manager position at Fresno State University from June 1996 to January 1999. Moosbrugger was promoted to athletics ticket manager in 1999, and remained at Fresno State as manager until March 2000. His responsibilities included the direction of all ticket sales and operations for over 100 athletic and special events planned annually for the Bulldogs.

Moosbrugger came to San Diego State in March 2000 to work as the assistant director of the AAF. He was involved in all operations of the development office, secured AAF Golf Classic hole sponsorships and managed fiscal accounts for all areas in the AAF.

A 1994 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio, he and his wife, Esther, have two sons.
