SAN DIEGO - With 12 consecutive weeks of football on the horizon, San Diego State began its game-week preparations for its first-ever meeting with Washington State on Sunday evening with a light hour workout at the team's on-campus facility.
"It was a good preparation and walk through day for us to introduce our opponent, and now we're off and running," San Diego State head coach Chuck Long said.
SDSU split Sunday's practice between the offense and defense running against the scout squads, followed by a short period of special teams work and conditioning drills.
The Aztecs will have just four practices after Monday's off-day to get ready for the season-opener next Saturday against Washington State, which began the year with a 42-21 loss at No. 7 Wisconsin.
"Washington State, looking at their offense, their quarterback is savvy and smart and has a good arm," said Long about the Cougars. "Their receivers are good and I was really impressed with their two running backs. Defensively, they've always been solid. Overall, their balancing youth just like we are."
