Sept. 1, 2007

The final in the daily series with GoAztecs.com, get to know freshman, offensive lineman Kurtis Gunther.

GoAztecs.com: What was it like playing at Qualcomm Stadium for the first time last Saturday?
Gunther: It was definitely a little intimidating because it was my first time playing in a stadium that big. At the same time, it was a really cool experience and I'm looking forward to playing at Qualcomm when the stands are full.

GoAztecs.com: What is your greatest high school football memory?
Gunther: Well, my high school team wasn't really that good. We didn't play in any championships or anything, but playing our rival school is probably my greatest memory. It was really fun having a big crowd and a lot of energy in that game.

GoAztecs.com: Did you play any other sports in high school?
Gunther: I played volleyball and a little bit of basketball. I was a middle blocker on the volleyball team all four years of high school. I was actually thinking about trying to play volleyball somewhere, but football ended up coming through for me.

GoAztecs.com: If SDSU had a men's volleyball team, would you think about trying out?
Gunther: Well, I think I'm a little too big for volleyball now. I was a little bit lighter when I was playing in high school.

GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you like?
Gunther: I listen to a lot of stuff, but mostly heavy metal and rock and roll.

GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite band?
Gunther: No, I like a lot of stuff but I don't have a favorite.

GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Gunther: Well, in what little spare time I do have, I'm usually sleeping or trying to do something relaxing like going to the pool or the beach.

GoAztecs.com: Who is the funniest guy on the team?
Gunther: I would have to say (senior) Brandyn Dombrowski, our right guard. He's pretty funny and makes us all laugh.

GoAztecs.com: How was your first week of classes?
Gunther: It's been pretty rough walking all over campus. I'm not used to walking 10 or 15 minutes just to go to class. The actual classes have been okay, I just have to get used to traveling all over campus.

GoAztecs.com: What did you do this past summer before coming to San Diego?
Gunther: I mostly spent time with my parents and friends. I just tried to enjoy my last few months in my hometown because I knew it would never really be the same. I won't get too many chances to go back home now.

GoAztecs.com: Do you know what you want to major in at SDSU?
Gunther: I'm hoping to major in business administration. I know it's a tough major, but I will try my best.
