The 22nd in a daily series during fall camp, get to know junior transfer, defensive lineman David Curiel.
GoAztecs.com: How was your experience at Aztec Family Day?
Curiel: It was nice. My family wasn't able to make it, but I went to (Notre Dame High School) with (defensive lineman) Tony DeMartinis and most of his family was there. I've known Tony and his family for a long time, so it was fun.
GoAztecs.com: You were able to get a little taste of the game-time environment as an Aztec on Saturday. How ready are you for the season-opener at Washington State next weekend?
Curiel: It was a really cool experience getting to play at Qualcaomm Stadium. Next weekend will be crazy. I don't know if I will be traveling because I might be redshirting this year, but I think the team is ready to go.
GoAztecs.com: How were your first couple days of classes?
Curiel: They went pretty well. It's been kind of tough getting back to the whole school thing now that summer is over. I will have a crazy day tomorrow, but it will be alright.
GoAztecs.com: If you weren't playing football, what sport would you be playing?
Curiel: I would probably be playing basketball. I didn't play in high school, but I have a nice three-point shot.
GoAztecs.com: What type of music do you listen to?
Curiel: I like everything. I don't really like country music, but a lot of people listen to it down here so I guess I might give it a shot.
GoAztecs.com: How did you spend your summer before coming to San Diego?
Curiel: I actually trained at my old junior college (College of the Canyons) to start the summer. I moved down to San Diego in July, about a month before fall camp started, to try and start practicing with the team but all of the paperwork took awhile. Fortunately, I was able to make it into fall camp, so I am happy with that.
GoAztecs.com: How has the transition from junior college to Division I football been?
Curiel: It has been alright. I used to play offensive line at (College of the Canyons), so it's kind of like going back to my high school days when I played defensive line. The guys are a lot bigger and stronger here, but strength and conditioning-wise, I came from a really good program, so it's been fun.
GoAztecs.com: If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be and why?
Curiel: I would probably want to go to Australia because it sounds like a lot of fun.
GoAztecs.com: Do you have a favorite professional team?
Curiel: I don't really follow the NFL too much, but I guess I'll have to say the Chargers now.
GoAztecs.com: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Curiel: I like to hang out with my friends and play video games. Guitar Hero is one of my favorite games to play. I also like to watch movies and just socialize.
GoAztecs.com: Who is the comedian on this Aztec football team?
Curiel: I really haven't had the chance to get to know all of the guys yet, but this guy right here (defensive lineman Michael Snead) is pretty funny. He's always good for a laugh.
GoAztecs.com: What are you majoring in at SDSU?
Curiel: I am a business administration major.
