SAN DIEGO - The 21st in a daily series during fall camp, get to know freshman, offensive lineman Tommie Draheim.
GoAztecs.com: How was your first fall camp at San Diego State?
Draheim: Fall camp went really well for me. Camp was all about adjusting to the speed of the game. Everyone is so much better at this level than in high school.
GoAztecs.com: Is there anything specifically offensive line coach Jonathan Himebauch has been working on with you?
Draheim: Mainly getting my footwork down right. Each day I've needed to get better at getting lower on my blocks.
GoAztecs.com: What positions on the offensive line have you been working at?
Draheim: I've been working the most at center which was the position I played in high school. Coaches have also had me work a lot at guard.
GoAztecs.com: What are your thoughts on school starting today?
Draheim: I'm excited to start meeting new people. Nobody from my hometown area that I know is coming to SDSU. Today is a good opportunity for me to meet a lot of new people. I'm also ready to start finding out what college classes are like.
GoAztecs.com: What is your favorite high school moment?
Draheim: My favorite high school moment was when I was a senior at El Capitan High and we completed one last drive against Grossmont High in the final minutes of the game to complete our 10-0 season. That was the first time in school history that a team went unbeaten.
GoAztecs.com: What are some of your favorite types of music?
Draheim: I like a lot of different country and rock groups. I try to keep open to all types of music even though I'm not a huge fan of rap.
GoAztecs.com: Are you excited to be able to play for your hometown team?
Draheim: I'm definitely excited to be playing close to home here at San Diego State. I'll be able to have a lot of friends and family come out to each home game and cheer on the Aztecs.
GoAztecs.com: Is there a team that is not on this year's SDSU schedule that you would like to see the Aztecs play in the future?
Draheim: It would be nice someday to play Michigan. I always wanted to play at the Big House in Ann Arbor and walk out as an opponent in front of all their fans.
GoAztecs.com: What was your favorite sports team growing up?
Draheim: I'm a Washington Redskins fan. I got to be a fan because when I was a little kid I didn't know the Redskins played on the east coast. I thought they played in the state of Washington where I was born and that they were the local team.
GoAztecs.com: What are you known for around your friends?
Draheim: I would have to say my friends always talk about how I can eat just about anything. There was this one time I ate a whole tub of licorice out of boredom that they never let me live down.
