Aug. 22, 2007

SAN DIEGO - The 15th in a daily series during fall camp, get to know freshman, linebacker Miles Burris.

GoAztecs.com: What have been your impressions of fall camp?
Burris: Camp has been going really well for me. The team has been great and has had a lot of good energy. As camp goes on, teams usually wear down and we are finding ways to come out with good energy every day. Everybody is learning, especially myself. With each practice, I have been improving in terms of learning alignments and signals.

GoAztecs.com: What has your position coach, William Inge, been working with you on the most?
Burris: He's been helping me learn where I'm suppose to be lined up on each defensive call. It's a lot of information to process because assignments can change as offenses move in motion. It can be a lot to absorb and the coaches have been great helping me learn.

GoAztecs.com: What are the strengths of SDSU's linebacking corps?
Burris: I think we're a really good unit. We're young, but learning a lot this camp. We are all really fast and that's what you need to be to play well and win in the Mountain West Conference.

GoAztecs.com: What are you looking forward to the most about today's off day from practice?
Burris: I'm looking forward to catching up on some rest. We'll have some meetings throughout the day, but I look forward to catching a couple naps in between.

GoAztecs.com: What is your favorite high school moment?
Burris: I'll always remember the first playoff game of my junior year against Elk Grove High. That was a game where I made some big plays including a hit on the goal line on fourth down that prevented a touchdown. That game helped me catch the attention of recruiters.

GoAztecs.com: How do you compare San Diego to your hometown of Roseville, Calif.?
Burris: It's definitely a lot hotter back home. It's gotten pretty hot down here throughout camp, but it still gets hotter back home. I've always wanted to come down to the south. Even if I wasn't playing football, I still would have chosen to come to San Diego State because I love the weather and the breezes off the sea.

GoAztecs.com: What was your team's recent trip to La Jolla like?
Burris: La Jolla had the nicest beaches I've ever been to. I was able to body surf, play football on the beach with some of my teammates and there was plenty of food for us. It was a really fun time.

GoAztecs.com: What was your favorite sports team growing up?
Burris: I would say the Tennessee Titans. I know that sounds weird being from California, but I really got into watching football the year Tennessee faced the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl. I loved watching Steve McNair play because he could run really well. The Chargers now are definitely my second favorite team.
