SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's soccer team is ranked No. 21 in the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Poll, released Monday by the website. The No. 21 ranking is the Aztecs' highest of the preseason, after earning the No. 25 spot by College Soccer News and receiving votes in the NSCAA/adidas poll.
San Diego State returns seven starters, including 2006 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Nick Cardenas and all-conference players Kraig Chiles, Danny Ortiz and Dennis Sanchez, from the 2006 team that went 9-6-4 and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season.
SDSU, which is one of five Pac-10 schools to make the Top Drawer Soccer poll, begins its season on the road against Creighton on Aug. 31 before playing host to UC Riverside on Sept. 3.
Earlier this month, the Aztecs' 2007 recruiting class was ranked No. 19 in the nation by College Soccer News, while Cardenas was selected as a third-team preseason All-American by the publication.
