SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Aaron Goldberg begins competition on Tuesday as part of the World University Games at the Water Mill Golf and Gardens Club in Nakhonnayok, Thailand. The 54-hole event, which concludes on Friday, marks the first time in the games' history that golf is included.

Goldberg, SDSU's first PING All-American since 2001, will compete in Thailand as a member of the United States team along with Michigan State's Ryan Brehm, Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon and Scottsdale Community College's Braxton Marquez. The group will be coached by Iowa head coach Mark Hankins.

"We are very excited for Aaron to be playing in this Olympic-style competition," Aztec men's golf coach Ryan Donovan said. "It's a tremendous honor to be selected to represent one's country. Aaron has a great opportunity to play overseas with other talented golfers and to be coached by Mark Hankins."

The U.S. squad began its training on August 8 in San Francisco before traveling to Thailand. The foursome will be in competition against teams from Thailand, France, Italy, South Africa, Ireland, Great Britain, Russia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Chinese Taipei, Slovakia, Netherlands, Germany, Japan and Canada.
