SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's golf head coach Felicia Brown announced Wednesday the signing of prep standout Ashley Dyer (Corcoran, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent. Dyer will begin attending classes at San Diego State this fall and will be eligible to compete for the Aztecs during the 2007-08 season.

"I am excited about the energy level that Ashley brings to the team," Brown said. "I expect her to set high goals for herself, and I know that she is the kind of student-athlete who will work hard to achieve those goals."

Dyer comes to San Diego State after lettering four years at Kings Christian High School in Lemoore, Calif., where she was a member of the boys' varsity golf team. Dyer was a four-time all-league pick and played as her team's No.1 golfer as a senior. She was also named female senior athlete of the year at her high school.

This past spring, Dyer finished fifth in the Central Sierra League tournament and was 15th at the boys CIF central area championships. She also competed individually in the girls CIF events, placing first at sectionals her junior year, to earn player-of-the-year honors. The following year during her senior campaign, she tied for first at the same event.

Dyer also competed in the JGANC, the AJGA and the PGA Junior Series and qualified for the Optimist International Championship four consecutive years. She has won three junior amateur events and in 2006, earned a spot in the Junior World tournament.

Dyer is not only an accomplished golfer, but an outstanding student as well. She graduated this past spring as class valedictorian with a 4.23 GPA, was a four-year honor roll student, CSF Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, and National Honor Society member.

The Corcoran, Calif., native was named female student-athlete of the year at the Central Valley ESPY Awards earlier this month. Dyer plans on majoring in kinesiology at San Diego State.
