SACRAMENTO, Calif. - San Diego State continued competition Thursday afternoon at the 2007 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif. Junior Sherraine Pencil and sophomore Shana Solomon were the lone Aztecs slated to compete as they took part in the 200-meter dash.
In the preliminaries of the event, Solomon ran in Heat 3 where she finished with a sixth-place time of 23.99 seconds, while Pencil crossed the finish line seventh with a clocking of 24.04 in Heat 4.
With all the marks in the books and the top 18 qualifying for the semifinals, Solomon ended with the 25th-fastest time and Pencil the 27th, which prevented them from moving on to the next round.
On Friday, sophomores Decontee Kaye and Karoline Koehler will look to earn a spot in Saturday's finals, as the two will compete in the prelims of the triple jump set for 3:15 p.m. PDT. Kaye enters the competition with the third-best leap nationally, while Koehler boasts the 16th-longest jump.
