SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Kristin Olafsdottir finds herself in fourth place after day one of the heptathlon at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships contested at SDSU Sports Deck. The sophomore has 3,049 points after four events and trails Utah's Amanda Feight, who is in third, by just 37 points. Meanwhile, classmate Shana Watson sits in 12th with 2,126 points.
Olafsdottir began the afternoon by logging the third-fastest 100-meter hurdle time in the 12-person field with a clocking of 14.41 seconds. Later in the next event, the sophomore posted a season-best leap of 5 feet, 4.5 inches in the high jump before recording a distance of 33-9.25 in the shot put. In the 200-meter dash, the final event of the day, Olafsdottir crossed the finish line in 26.00, finishing second in her heat, but fifth overall.
Watson, competing in her first-ever heptathlon at San Diego State, registered a time of 15.72 in the 100 hurdles to finish ninth and logged the field's eighth-best distance of 33-1.75 in the shot put. To close the day, the sophomore finished ahead of Olafsdottir in the 200 to come in first place (25.50) in her heat, but was later edged by Colorado State's Emily Pearson by .01 seconds (25.49) for the 200 title.
Both Aztecs will return to the track on Thursday for the final three events of the heptathlon beginning at 12:30 p.m. PDT.
